Windsurfing: Aberdyfi Wind Direction: all over the place !!!! Wind Stength: light Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: cloudy Max Speed: 19.6 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 14.2 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
After reading all the reports of the windsurfing and kitesurfing at and
around Aberdyfi from Justal and Shem we decided to have a weeks holiday
staying in a campsite just out of town on the Tywyn road.To say we picked
an interesting week is an under statement !!! We arrived on sat in rain,
pitched awning with sea view(I discovered I had left awning pegs at
home, luckily we found 4 in the van) - this was a big mistake as we woke to
winds gusting to 45+ mph,so a quick drive around area in search of pegs-no
luck, nothing opens on Sundays in Wales!!! Back at the site we find our
awning blown across the site and the frame abit bent, another caravan awning
was being shredded by the wind so we take this down and borrow their pegs
and repitch in a sheltered corner.
We head Aberdyfi and watch the slalom racing - more like surviving with a
3.5!!!
Then Mon was bright and sunny with no wind, went for a walk on the
beach(what a mega beach)
Tues arrived with a little breeze so after breakfast in the van in the
beach carpark(what a great spot) I rigged 9.4 and took the longboard nearly
4 miles up the R.Dovey which was great even in the light airs and shallow
water. The my top speed of 19.6 was over a 100m in the harbour because my
average speed was only 4.6kts!!! In fact it was only the tide turning on
the way back take hepled me get back after over 3hrs on the water!!!
I had another hour on the water in the river mouth but the wind swung 180
degrees in a minute so I called it a day.
The windsurfing was rubbish but the scenery was great!!!
